People look forward to winter because it is the period where they can have different kinds of fun with friends and family. Snow fun can only be had and enjoyed at the winter time of the year. The dog is ‘man’s best friend’ and it is also a part of the family, so it is important to think of ways to have fun with your dog as you plan the fun activities for yourself, your friends, and your family.

However, before you take your dog out in the snow, take the following into consideration:

  • Smaller dogs are closer to the ground and they have fewer fat reserves to conserve their body heat, therefore they get cold faster than bigger dogs. The bigger your dog, the more it can cope and play for a long time in cold weather.

  • Some dog breeds are resistant to cold, so if you check your dog’s coat and discover it has a double-coat, then your dog is a cold-resistant breed. Lucky dog! Lucky you!

  • If your dog is short haired, buy it a sweater to give it more protection from cold.

  • Fun in the snow is not for you and your dog if your dog is aged. You should always keep your old dog warm at all times.

  • Snow can get stuck in between your dog’s pads, causing discomfort and cuts to your dog. If you plan on playing with your dog in the snow for a long time, consider ways to protect their feet such as booties.

FEW WAYS TO PLAY WITH YOUR DOG IN THE SNOW

Hiking

If you enjoy going on a long walk, taking your dog with you will not be a bad idea. However, buy your dog booties to protect their paws. Also, make sure your dog does not get in contact with frozen water.

Snowball Fights

Dogs like to run and catch things. Rolling snow into a ball and throwing it for your dog to catch is a fun activity you can have with your dog in the snow. They will be delighted by the ways the snow falls apart as they try to catch it.

Cross Country Skiing

If you have a dog that likes to run, then cross-country skiing will be a good way to have fun with it in the snow.

Skijoring

Skijoring is a winter sport where a person on skis is pulled by a horse, a dog or a motor vehicle; however, people prefer dogs for skijoring. The dogs provide power by running and pulling, and the skier guides them with their voice instructions. Dogs used for skijoring are dogs that have the required strength, body weight, speed, size, endurance, and energy. These are the reasons why skijoring can only be done with big dogs.

A walk through the snow-covered street

You and your dog can enjoy outdoor fun in a blanket of white snow covering the yards and trees. Don’t skip taking photos of your puppy in the snow!

A game of fetch

Dogs love playing and fetch is one of the best ideas to have fun with your dog especially in the snow. It will be a lot of fun for both of you.

Dogs are our faithful friend in need and truly for the quantity of love and affection we shower on our faithful companion, it is immensely less. National Dog Day remembers your canine friend and this day is for honoring the dogs. The dogs are remembered for their unstinting support in times of disasters, in times of law enforcement duties, and in helping the blind. This day also remembers their unflinching devotion to us in times of pulling bomb affected persons to safety and detecting bombs in tense times.

National Dog Day reminds us of our eternal companion for his love which we can surely reciprocate by showering some affection for dogs ourselves. One is by celebrating August 26 as dogs day. National dog day has been reserved for heaping praises and admiration on him and the recognition he so much deserves.

National Dog Day is a holiday that was founded in 2004 with the pure aim of celebrating all dogs on earth of every breed, color, mix and size. The National Dog Day was founded by Colleen Paige, a Pet and Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate.

This holiday is celebrated to imbibe within us the pure love and affection of dogs and how dogs make your lives better. People are working tirelessly to help all dogs in need, providing care and affection especially from Veterinary doctors, foster families and dog rescuers.

National Dog Day is a sure way to indulge in some fun activities with your favorite pooch in tow. Showering affection on dogs, we also can hope for the best when it comes to offering a permanent home for the shelter-less is  a fine way to show how much you dote on him. Capturing him on lens will demonstrate your love for the dog. You could go one step further and take a selfie with your pet romping around in the playground.

For the unconditional love that the dog displays, National dog day should be celebrated all year round! If you are considering adopting a dog, this would be the best service you could do to him because from being an unloved lonely four-legged creature, you could get him home and take care of him. You can be sure to win the dogs admiration by looking into his soulful eyes that he really cares for you and thanks you for surrounding him with compassion.

Many get so attached with their dogs that they would love to take him on all travelling expeditions that they embark on. Hotels also have a pet-friendly  room designated for dogs alone and many hotels also are offering pup-themed parties and special packages to fall in line with National Dog Day. Some events will also line a lot of freebies and discounts for dogs and their owners.

Also you can stack up their wardrobe with pretty dog collars, bandana with their name or even with raincoats personalized from Sassy Dog Fashions.

Walking your dog on a dog leash is very important as it is the foundation for all other training for dogs. Some are of the opinion that dogs should be walked at least once in day while some believe that dogs should be walked at least 15 minutes twice a day. Despite knowing that this exercise can be a good stress reliever and bring happiness to both the pet and the owner, studies have shown that over 20% of dogs owners don’t walk them every day as they believe it can turn to a nightmare as their pet may decide to escape. If you really want to experience success in walking your dog, then consider the following seven tips:

1. Proper way of placing the dog collars: The collar should be placed in such a way that it is at the top of the dog’s neck. This part is the most sensitive region of the neck, it will be easy for you to bring him back to order whenever he is going out of control. There are some lovely dog collars available on our website.

2. Always pull on the lead: Under no circumstances should you let your dog be in the front. As soon as you leave the house, let the dog know you are in charge. He needs to understand who controls the pace because once you allow him at the front, he will assume the pack leader role and do whatever he wants to do.

3. Avoid using a flexi dog leash: The leash on your dog should not be too flexible because it limits your control. If your dog sees anything he likes, he will quickly move towards it if the leash is not firm. This can sometimes lead to accident.

4. Constantly correct your dog: Some of the times, your dog will take the wrong step or go different path from yours. Something might catch his attention and might want to sniff it, try and control him as soon as possible. You can go with a walking stick as something to also put your dog under check but you don’t have to hit him.

5. Always have a dog mace with you for protection: This is very important and should not be placed in the dog back pack but with you so that you can easily get when the need arise. Some of the people around you may have stray and aggressive dogs that might want to attack you or your dog. Using dog mace as a means of protection is better because it will permanently injure the attacking dog unlike stick. All you need to do is to spray it towards the dog.

6. Rewarding your dog: You can allow your dog to stop and sniff the grass at the end of the walk. This way of rewarding him also makes him feel relieved after the walk. Make sure it is always at the end so that he can always see it as a reward for a good walk.

7. Celebrate your dog: As soon as you get back home make it a habit to feed your dog and let him see it as another form of reward so that he can always look forward to that nice treat.
